At Wantirna College

Wantirna College is an ambitious coeducational government secondary school in the City of Knox. Our community has high aspirations for our students which are exemplified in our school motto “Strive, Achieve and Excel”. We offer a broad range of curricular and extracurricular programs designed to provide our students with the opportunity to develop new passions, explore and broaden existing interests and to discover what their strengths are. In year 7 and 8 students study a broad based core curriculum designed to develop strong foundations in literacy and numeracy whilst providing exposure to subjects in every learning area. In year 9 and 10 students select half their subjects from a vast offering of electives whilst continuing core studies in English, Maths, Humanities and Science. We offer a broad range of VCE and VET studies alongside a quality VCAL program with year 10 students encouraged to take an early start VCE subject.
We understand that the classroom isn’t the sole domain for learning and provide extensive extracurricular offerings. Our annual school production is legendary and involves students from years 7-12. Always a musical, students can develop their talents as actors, dancers or singers and learn the technical aspects of putting on a show. Likewise the instrumental music, sports and camps programs promote the development of the whole student and encourage students to develop lifelong friendships.
Whether it is in the classroom or beyond we focus on quality teaching, all of the time. Classes are built on a foundation of positive, respectful relationships between students and teachers which places student wellbeing and learning at the centre. We expect our teachers to know where each individual student is in their learning journey and to prepare work that will allow each student to make learning progress. As a strong, close knit community our students are motivated and our teachers are focussed on improving outcomes.
With magnificent views of the Dandenong Ranges our school has spacious, modern well maintained buildings and grounds. Our College Council has, and will continue to invest significant funds to further continue to ensure we have fantastic facilities that promote learning. Our library is the hub of the school and is undergoing a transformation to become a true 21st century learning space. Our students love The Orchard, our 200 seat indoor cafeteria, and enjoy our new undercover outdoor sporting facilities.
We believe that the best schools work in partnership with parents to support the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of young people. As such we invite parents to book a tour for themselves and their children to come and see us in action.
