River Gum Primary School

River Gum’s motto ‘Together we can for every child, every day, in every classroom’ highlights a student focused culture of 21st Century learning. Our school is located in Hampton Park, a suburb in Melbourne’s south-eastern growth corridor approximately 10 kilometres from Dandenong. The school caters for a wide range of social, economic and cultural backgrounds.

At River Gum Primary School, students own their own learning and our teachers use their pedagogical knowledge to personalise learning. We value community relationships and reflection. Our core business is to improve student learning outcomes with a focus on Literacy and Numeracy. Students at River Gum use “rich tasks” and “open ended investigations” to provide developmentally appropriate learning activities that value and respect the individuality and the different learning styles of each child.

Our Multimedia program located in the new River Gum Performing Arts Centre shapes the kind of inspiring learning our students experience. Multimedia uses multi-literacies and captivates our young learners in communicating their thoughts and interests; it develops critical literacy skills and makes learning relevant.

In our school we develop partnerships for learning between the community, school and staff. We have a sport complex comprising of a gymnasium, running track, sporting oval and a community playground funded by the City of Casey. Our School Council recognises community partnerships for learning with our Community Liaison Group.

The teaching and learning environment is supportive and productive through building positive relationships through knowing each student. Our school community is both friendly and welcoming.
